- 1:59 AM - A special toy for MSN users

Since MSN is shutting down, here's something for any MSN Chat mIRC users that are still out there. If you hung around me much on MSN, you've seen me talk about Ricerca, my MSN search tool.

Try it out for yourself.

Unzip and load ricerca21.mrc and ricercadialog.mrc and you're ready to go. You'll notice ricercatext.mrc and ricercacmd.mrc are password locked. Read the ricerca.txt file and it says why and gives you the password.

- 11:05 PM - Off to North Carolina

Sara, myself, and a friend from New Orleans are heading out to NC for the national Pump it Up tournament. Be back in a few days!

- 6:39 PM - What? Spam on the Realm?

My friend Catherine is actually a finalist in a fashion contest for Seventeen magazine. She's currently running second place, so if you don't mind taking about 15 seconds and voting for her (unless you really just prefer one of the other 5), I'd appreciate it. Just click the picture below to get there. It's a shame they didn't use a very good picture of her or she'd probably be winning right now.

I'm already saved up and ready to play with my Wii. Unfortunately, looks like I'll be settling for white.

- 2:58 PM - On The Recent Deaths...

...well. I first have to comment on the one that actually sucks. I always believed Steve wouldn't die at the hands of his own { genius | stupidity } and that it would be a freak accident. So, I win. Again.

As far as MSN goes, I have one comment:
FINALLY

Will you assholes stop making MSN Chat clones using their NOW DEFUNCT chat control? Let me spell this out in other language you may understand. If you continue to make MSN clone servers, users will not be able to download the chat control after MSN closes! You could, of course, host it on your site, but that's a violation of their Terms of Use and US Copyright Law. I've been saying this since I stopped making them, and now I wish you assholes would figure it out.

That said, people ask me what the right way would be. The right way would be to offer a front end to the user, and do all the connecting and processing on the server end (well, not all of the processing). Gmail Chat works this way, Campfire works this way, Microsoft Experts Exchange Chat works this way. It's the right way. So start doing it that way :)

- 1:02 PM - Old news by now

Steve Irwin died during a documentary shoot of a stingray... well... sting. See any news site for more details. I'm told that the Irwin family has had the video of his death destroyed, so don't expect to find it on Youtube or anything. I haven't had that proven yet though.

Corny as he was, he was a legend, and will be missed by many.

In other death-related news, MSN Chat is finally shutting down on October 18th. I could swear I recently heard the sound of thousands of script kiddies screaming "OMGWTFZ0RZ" in unison.

- 12:38 AM - Free Starbucks

No, really, free Starbucks.

Apparently there's a coupon being passed around through e-mail that's actually legit this time. Just print out the PDF and take it to your local Starbucks.

Update, Sept 2: Starbucks has withdrawn the offer now, so if you were planning to take advantage of it, you're too late :P

We're dead. Haha. Nothing really of interest to post right now.

- 7:57 PM - Videogames after a tragedy

The Escapist has a nice article for video game fans out there. Lara Crigger writes about returning with her boyfriend to his family in the post-Katrina New Orleans area. She realizes that to a video game fan, sometimes it's not the game itself that really matters.

- 9:25 PM - Since Maddox doesn't matter anymore

I think Dr. David Thorpe deserves some attention, if only for the sake of bashing the clueless masses.

If anyone is wondering what spawned the hatemail, it was this article of his. He actually tends to get a lot of hatemail because he dares to present his opinion on a band in a colorful way.

- 12:37 AM - WTF is up with TechGear?

I got a funny message today about a certain kind of site, sent as a global system message.

My suggestion to you if you do get this e-mail is this: take caution. If it's err0r and Ozzy for real sending that message out, you should be okay to register. If their forum was hacked (it was inaccessible this morning), there's a high possibility that the attacker is using a classic social engineering hack. Which is, well, he can get your passwords when you register, if he can get you to register. I have not registered and do not intend on it. It'd be nice to get some official confirmation on this, though.

UPDATE 4-AUG-2006:

Quote

The recent bulk email was sent out by a user exploiting a security flaw in invision power boards. We must say we are sorry this happened but it was beyond our control. We take every effort to ensure our boards are upgrade to the latest version and all patches are applied. At this time ipb is having major issues with security and we are debating whether we should switch to another forum type. All your information is safe. No need to change passwords or anything of that nature.

As for any future emails you may get. We would NEVER send out a bulk email about another website. Over the years we have sent out maybe 5 global emails and dealing with our site and our site only. If you ever receive an email from tg007.net including links to other sites or requests for any info including passwords you should ignore and delete the message.

Again we are sorry for any trouble this may have caused and we are working hard to make sure this problem is fixed.

This means you should NOT under ANY circumstances register on the site that came in the bulk e-mail! They may be able to steal your information! It's probably a social engineering hack! STAY AWAY!

Get Hedgehog Heaven. It's great.

Apparently the latest version of Opera doesn't like my themeswitcher. As a workaround, if you hit reload it'll load your chosen theme properly.
